Black Youth Mental Health Literacy (MHL) Study

Protocol Description

This research study aims to measure the present knowledge and beliefs of Black youth concerning mental health, mental illnesses, and treatment methods.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Participants must identify as Black and/or African American
  • Be 14-17 years old
  • Reside in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania

Requirements

Youth will complete a survey battery that includes a demographic questionnaire, measures of mental health symptomatology, subjective social status, stigma, help-seeking, and mental health literacy. The survey battery should take 45-60 minutes to complete. A sub-sample of participants will be randomly selected to take the mental health literacy measure again which should take no longer than 10 minutes to complete.

Compensation

Survey respondents will be offered $15 after completion of the survey.
