This retrospective medical-record review will examine de-identified information about pediatric patients diagnosed and treated for refractory status epilepticus at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC. Researchers will identify the etiology, diagnostic tools employed, medications used, duration of stay in the Intensive Care Unit and prognosis in this population. Due to the current lack of data concerning this life-threatening condition relative to the pediatric population, this study will be helpful in its management with future patients.
This study will review records of patients up to age 17 who were treated for this condition between January 2000 and March 2008, and as a retrospective review, enrollment is not required.
